Rain Relief Ahead as Monsoon Advances; What Super El Nino Could Mean for India (X)
New Delhi: The country is currently in the grip of intense heatwave. From the plains to the mountains, the heatwave has made people miserable. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the intense heatwave will continue in the Central and northwest India for the next three to four days.
The IMD said that a new western disturbance will become active in northwest India on May 28 and its impact will completely change the weather in Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. On May 28 and 29, these states are expected to experience thunderstorms with winds of up to 60 to 80 kilometers per hour, rain and hailstorms.
The IMD has issued a heatwave warning for Wednesday and said that weather could change in the capital on Thursday. Western Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh are under thunderstorm and rain alert from May 28 to 31.
Pre-monsoon rainfall has already started in many parts of the country, bringing some relief from the scorching heat. Due to an active western disturbance in the Himalayan region, states such as Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan are likely to experience rainfall over the next 4-5 days.
Every few years, the central and eastern Pacific Ocean warms above its normal temperature. This warming disrupts the trade winds, which are the steady easterly winds that blow across the tropics and keep global weather patterns in balance.
When those winds weaken, heat builds up across the Pacific, and weather systems across the entire planet shift in response. When the surface temperature of the central and eastern Pacific Ocean rises 0.5 degrees Celsius above normal, then it is called El Nino. However, when it rises by 2 degrees Celsius, then it is called Super El Nino.
